Posted on Mar 22, 2019

The resolution on “Formulating and Implementing Project Based Initiative on Strengthening Legal Frameworks to Protect Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism” mandates and supports the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Secretariat to take action as well as to create engagement with regional and international communities on child protection from sexual exploitation in travel and tourism.

AIPA Member Parliaments met on 18-19 March in Pattaya, Thailand, to discuss key legal interventions to protect children and to stop travelling child sex offenders from exploiting children in all South East Asian countries. The workshop brought together parliamentarians, representatives of governments, law enforcement, judiciary, the private sector and civil society organizations. They discussed the legal checklist on key legal interventions to protect children from sexual exploitation in travel and tourism, including the online elements.

It is my recommendations that countries use the legal checklist for child protection in tourism to follow up on our work to protect children from sexual exploitation,” said Thai Minister of Tourism & Sports, Mr Weerasak Kowsurat, at the AIPA Secretariat workshop in Pattaya.
